Webinar: A Look at Next Week’s Important UK Data and Releases

Nick Cawley, Senior Strategist

Share:

In this webinar we looked at next week’s data releases and events and discussed their potential impact on a wide range of UK assets and markets. And we discussed other US and Euro-Zone events which will help to shape trading in various currency pairs. And finally at the end of the week the Jackson Hole symposium features Fed Chair Janet Yellen and ECB President Mario Draghi.

Discussions include –

  • UK growth is soft and running below average with little in the way to give it an uplift. The latest reading of the second quarter numbers are expected to confirm subdued growth of just 0.3%.
  • The UK public deficit continues to grow, placing handcuffs on Chancellor Philip Hammond ahead of the Autumn Budget. Will there be any money left for him to relax austerity measures or hike public sector worker’s wages?
  • The annual central bank get together at the Jackson Hole symposium will see Fed Chair Janet Yellen and ECB President Mario Draghi take to the stage on Friday. Will they give any monetary policy clues or hints at a timetable for quantitative tightening?
