Trading Video: Heavy Dollar, Euro and Pound Event Risk This Week

John Kicklighter, Chief Strategist

Talking Points:

• The economic docket is loaded in the week ahead with events like the FOMC decision, US GDP and BoJ

• Following a week where activity levels pushed to new extreme lows, this my prove a much-needed spark

• Risk trends will be the first place to look, but FX carries many potential catalysts

Market conditions change, and our strategy should reflect those changes. We have coded the DailyFX-Plus strategies for Breakout, Range and Momentum to adapt to these market shifts.

Market activity continued to dissipate this past week. Complacency and self-assurance have long ago reached extreme levels, but the market has put off rebalancing until something has forced the issue. Perhaps we will find that impetus this week. With the din of doubt amongst bulls growing, we head into a week laden with event risk that will weigh in on growth, monetary policy and financial soundness. Growth releases from the US, UK and Spain; rate decisions for the FOMC and BoJ; and a variety of events with a storied background in volatiltiy are due. What should we look to first? What is the probability of the long-awaited 'big move' developing this week? Which setups offer the best opportunity? We discuss this in the weekend Trading Video.
