We are at a seasonal turning point for the markets. Summer trading conditions normally end with the Labor Day holiday in the US and Canada. After the liquidity drain passes, we typically see a rebound in participation which coincides with an increase in activity. Yet, current conditions are a little different - they are more extreme. The 'Summer Doldrums' account for only a fraction of the historical volatility surpression we have seen these past months.
