Talking Points:

• The Labor Day holiday period traditionally calls an end to the 'Summer Doldrums'

• A turning point for volatility and participation, this transition can also motivate a more systemic shift

• While monitoring underlying conditions, we should prepare for short-term sparks from SPX, USDJPY, etc

We are at a seasonal turning point for the markets. Summer trading conditions normally end with the Labor Day holiday in the US and Canada. After the liquidity drain passes, we typically see a rebound in participation which coincides with an increase in activity. Yet, current conditions are a little different - they are more extreme. The 'Summer Doldrums' account for only a fraction of the historical volatility surpression we have seen these past months. Can an expected seasonal shift catalyze a long overdue systemic change for the markets? In this weekend Strategy Video, we look at volatility conditions with a view of short-term opportunities as well as those high-level setups ready for a comprehensive transformation.
