The markets and fundamentals continue to stretch to further and further extremes. Two inevitable breaking points that we should keep a close eye on – risk appetite trends snapping back to meet more modest fundamental valuation, and the US Dollar’s (a safe haven) remarkable rally alongside the S&P 500 (a risk barometer). These themes will inevitably reconcile and it will likely be through a theme that has garnered a lot of attention in the financial headlines: stimulus and QE3 (read about what the ‘taper’ is here).

The scheduled event risk on the docket next week builds in importance. The greatest potential rests with those indicators that tap into sentiment via stimulus. There are three rate top rate decisions on tap – the RBA, ECB and BoE – and all of those groups are considered to be a risk for easing. Top event risk for the week though – and therefore the event we host in DailyFX Plus – is the US Change in NFPs. The minutes from the last FOMC meeting suggested ‘many’ members are open to easing back on their stimulus program in the coming months if data shows further improvement. The unemployment rate is the accelerator for this effort.
