While this is not unusual during the long holiday season, the light volume can also lead to a volatile breakout. The trend is down, but with the recent USD strength, one should be prepared for a break up through resistance or a break down through support. But the key is to not let the quiet market lead to an assumption that it will remain quiet through the new year. Markets like to catch as many traders as possible leaning too far in one direction with a breakout in the other direction. This is the time to have protective stops in the market on every trade instead of thinking that the slow market will give you time to react. While the current market might not be offering much in the way of potential profit, it can always take money from our account if we are not paying attention.
