German Finance Minister Steinbrueck is urging banks to use the government's rescue package. Steinbrueck warned against postponing such a step for fear of a loss of prestige or a cut in salary for top managers. So far only three German banks have signalled interest in the government money - Bayern LB, WestLB and Hosteinische HSH Nordbank. Meanwhile Germany's Postbank today reported losses of EUR 449 m. Steinbrueck indicated that the government is looking into additional government measures to dampen the impact of the crisis, but argued against tax cuts, which would only put additional burden on future generations and also critized Sarkozy's plan for a part nationalization of key industries. Steinbrueck also said that Germany was likely to lose out in a pan European rescue fund.
