    Hi dkdavis,

Thank you for your post! Allow me to answer your question.

Alerts via text message are not working. Any helpful comments?

I would first make sure you have followed all the instructions on this post here.

If you are still having issues, I would attempt to use the email feature for the alerts just to make sure the login is working properly. Actually, if you can get emails on your phone, that might be your best bet as well. Text messages are more difficult to manage. With emails, you can create folders for specific pairs/strategies. (That is personally what I have done myself.)

Let me know if you can't get it working still or if emails will not work for you. I would be more than happy to figure this out with you. Just let me know!

Thanks again for the post, dkdavis!

    Hi ExclusiveForex,

Welcome to the Forum! Thank you for your post.

Where can I setup my own personal trading journal?

You will want to create a new thread at the link shown below:

    My Forex Trading Journal

Generally the first post in a Trade Journal introduces yourself and your approach to trading. After that, you are free to post whatever trades you are currently looking at trading or are already trading. I am looking forward to following your journal.

    Good luck with your trades!

    Rob

    FX returns

    Hi everyone

Been a while since I posted something - this is off topic I know but I'd appreciate some help:

How do I calculate my return for a specific period if I had deposits and withdrawals on my account?

    Example

    Opening balance (day 1) 500,000
    Deposits (day 10) 20,000
    Withdrawals (day 19) (50,000)
Closing balance inl gains (day 30) 670,000

    Thanks!

Hello enslinforex, and thank you for your post!

How do I calculate my return for a specific period if I had deposits and withdrawals on my account?

There are many different ways that you can calculate your Return on Investment (ROI). By definition, ROI is a performance measure used to evaluate the efficiency of an investment or to compare the efficiency of a number of different investments. To calculate ROI, the benefit (return) of an investment is divided by the cost of the investment; the result is expressed as a percentage or a ratio. The following is one of the most simple calculations that can be used to calculate ROI:

    100% * ( Gain from Investment - Cost of Investment ) / ( Cost of Investment )

The definition, can be modified to suit the situation, it all depends on what you include as returns and costs. The definition of the term in the broadest sense just attempts to measure the profitability of an investment and, as such, there is no one "right" calculation. Please click here to find out more about how you can calculate ROI.

The following formula is used to calculate the returns for the King of the Micro Contest:

    100% * (Ending equity - Beginning equity - Deposits) / (Beginning equity + Deposits)

Please feel free to use that formula as something to work off of as well. Please click here to learn more about how you can calculate your returns for the King of the Micro Contest.

It's still not too late to participate in next month's King of the Micro contest!

There is no registration form or entry fee required. All live FXCM Micro accounts with a minimum equity of $500 at the beginning of the month are automatically entered in the contest! For the purposes of the contest, the trading month officially begins at 5pm New York time on the last day of the previous month and ends at 5pm New York time on the last day of the month itself. Please click here for more information.

Please click here for more information about making deposits. I would suggest depositing by debit or credit card since it is the fastest method of depositing. Please contact me at julius@fxcm.com when you have made the deposit so that I can help expedite the process and ensure that you are eligible to participate.

If you do not already have an FXCM Micro account, you can open an account by clicking here.

Thank you again for your post enslinforex! Please do no hesitate to post with additional questions or contact me directly at julius@fxcm.com

FXCM Session hours and Settlement price time of contributing banks

    Hello,

I am wondering which hours is set as session start ups and closes for all days during a week?

For example I know that trading starts 17:00 Eastern Time on Sundays, but is this beginning session closing at 23:59 same Sunday and then next sessions keeps on from 00:00 to 23:59 every day rest of the week until Friday 16:00? Or is it from 17:00 to the close at 16:59 the day after every day except from Friday? If you could please line out the correct session open and close for each day the whole week I would very much appreciate it.

Second. Is there a time for when FXCM's contributing banks set a settlement price for each day? If so I guess this would correspond to a new session opening.

    Thank you.

    Laurentius

Hello laurentius, and thank you for your post!

When is the beginning and the end of the trading day?

The forex market is a near-seamless 24-hour market. Subject to available liquidity, FXCM offers forex trading from Sunday, starting after 5:15PM EST, until Friday, 5PM EST (FXCM Client Service is available 24/7). With the ability to trade around the clock, currency traders have the advantage of customizing their own trading schedule; they can usually get in or out of the market at any time without waiting for an opening bell or encountering a market gap. While trading stocks after usual market hours is possible, very often that possibility is negated by a lack of order flow or a drastic widening of the bid-ask spread.

The beginning and end of the forex trading day is considered to be at 5PM EST (New York Time). Any positions that are open at 5PM sharp are considered to be held overnight, and are "rolled over" to the next trading day. That is where the phrase "Rollover" comes from.

Please click here to learn more about Rollover.

Please click here to learn more about weekend execution.

How can I use the near-seamless 24 hour forex market to my advantage?

The world of forex never sleeps! You can use this to your advantage by choosing the optimal hours to trade your favorite currency pairs while reducing your transaction costs through the spread.

FXCM offers variable spreads. The beauty of variable spreads is that they can tighten during the most heavily traded hours for any given pair, and that's what can help reduce your transaction costs. Please click here for more information.

    What is the spread?

You will always see a two-sided quote in FX. In your FXCM account you will be shown a sell price and a buy price from the "Advanced Dealing Rates" window to the left in the Trading Station. They can also be referred to as the “bid” and “ask” respectively. The difference between the two prices is called the “spread”. The sell and buy price are highlighted below in green, and the spread is highlighted in red.

FXCM makes money by making a small markup on the spread (which is typically a pip) and it is the only way FXCM is compensated.

    What this means to you:

We make the same amount of money when you place a trade regardless of whether or not you are profitable on that trade. But in reality we want you to be a profitable trader, because if you are profitable that will increase the chances of you continuing to trade with us long-term, and if the account size grows you may even begin to trade in larger sizes. So as you can see, this eliminates any potential conflict of interest between the broker and the client. That is why we dedicate time and money to provide an abundance of educational resources with hopes that it will improve client profitability. We don't benefit from customer losses.

How am I charged based on the spread?

Clients are charged 10 cents per pip, per 1K trade. Using a numerical example, let's say the spread on EURUSD is 2 pips. If you were to place a 1K trade when the spread is 2 pips, you would pay 10 cents per pip, so in this instance you would pay 20 cents.

(1K)(.10) = ten cents per pip

    (.10)(2pips) = .20 or twenty cents

If you were to place a 2K trade with a 2 pip spread, you would pay 40 cents, and so forth.

(2K)(.10) = twenty cents per pip

    (.20)(2pips) = .40 or forty cents

So that means that you would be charged $1 per pip per 10K trade. Using a numerical example, let's say the spread on EURUSD is 2 pips. If you were to place a 10K trade when the spread is 2 pips, you would pay $1 per pip, so in this instance you would pay $2.

(10K)($1) = one dollar per pip

    ($1)(2pips) = $2 or two dollars

If you were to place a 20K trade with a 2 pip spread, you would pay $4, and so forth.

(20K)($1) = two dollars per pip

    ($2)(2pips) = $4 or four dollars

For more information regarding our spreads please click here. For more information regarding our execution model please click here.

Do you have any type of account that offers even tighter spreads?

Yes we absolutely do offer that laurentius! Our Active Trader accounts have several other benefits in addition to those that you would receive from a standard account. Some of the advantages to holding an Active Trader account include but are not limited to:

    • Up to 10 levels of market depth
    • View available liquidity at each price level
    • Reduced transaction costs
    • Expedited services

The Active Trader platform is available to traders that make an initial balance of at least $50,000 or regularly trade 10M a month in trading volume.

Please click here for more information regarding Active Trader accounts.

Please let me know if an Active Trader account would be something of interest to you, and I will be more than happy to put you in touch with an appropriate specialist that can go over all your options.

Thank you again for your post laurentius! Please feel free to post with more questions or send me an email directly at julius@fxcm.com

You can access DailyFX PLUS by clicking here and using the same information you use to log in to the Trading Station. Remember that your live account needs to be funded and activated in order to have full and unlimited access to DailyFX PLUS.

I am using the same information I use to log in to the platform but I still can't access DailyFX PLUS. What should I do?

If you are still not able to log in then the best solution is to try resetting your password. If that doesn't work you can also try using a different web browser. The following is a list of a few popular web browsers that are utilized by our clients:

Please let me know either way whether or not you are able to resolve the issue. If not please send me a screenshot of the error message that you are receiving when you attempt to access DailyFX PLUS and I would be more than happy to continue to help you troubleshoot this issue.

How can I take a screen shot of the error?

You can take a screen shot by following the simple steps below:

    1. Bring the image you would like to post onto your computer screen. Then take a snapshot of the image by clicking the Print Screen (or PRT SCRN) key on your keyboard. This will store the image of your screen into memory. (The Print Screen key is usually to the right of the F12 key on the keyboard.)

    2. Open a simple graphics program on your computer, such as "Paint". You can find "Paint" by by clicking on:

    Start > Programs > Accessories > Paint

    3. Once Paint is open, press CTRL + V on your keyboard to paste the image of your screen.

    4. Edit the image accordingly, and then save the file to your desktop or anywhere you'd like on your computer.

    5. Send the screenshot of the error as an attachment to julius@fxcm.com

Hello minhbilly68, and thank you for post! On behalf of myself and everyone here at FXCM, welcome to the forum community!

How can I turn off my mobile alerts?

DailyFX.com has a free service where you can have an alert sent to your mobile device when a specific price is reached for a currency pair or when market news is released! Here's where you can sign up: Mobile Price Alerts from DailyFX

I believe these are the alerts you are referring to. In order to stop receiving alerts you will need to login to the Mobile Price Alerts from DailyFX site and turn them off. So for example, if you want to turn off the News Alerts notifications, once you log in click on "News Alerts" on the top and make sure that all of the regions are unchecked.

Please let me know either way whether or not you are successfully able to turn off your alerts. Also, please click here to see a thread where I go over different ways to effectively and efficiently keep track of and trade the news. I hope you find that helpful!

Hello version10, and thank you for your post!

What should I do to resolve the issue I'm having with the Real Time news feed on DailyFX.com?

I'm not able to replicate the error you're describing; I'm able to access the Real Time news feed on DailyFX.com without any issues. Firstly please make sure you have the latest version of Flash and Java downloaded on your computer. If you have already done that then try clearing the cookies and cache of your web browser. I see that you mentioned that trying with a different web browser didn't work. Just so anyone that is reading this knows, trying with a different web browser can sometimes resolve issues like these. The following are a few popular web browsers that are utilized by our clients:

Please let me know either way whether or not one of these tips resolve the issue. If you're still having difficulty after trying these tips, please send me a detailed description of the error along with any screenshots you can provide of that error, and I would be more than happy to continue to troubleshoot the issue with you.

Please let me know either way whether or not you're able to resolve this issue. Thank you in advance for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
